Yes, Geoffrey, well said.

After growing up in the mostly pentecostal type church circles, becoming a studied pastor and then making it to 5 decades, this is what I have learned. The reason the church is in such crisis and carnality is that the church has refused to teach proper grace - the empowerment of God to live like Jesus - which is only way that we could ever live like Jesus.

I am not talking about greasy grace - how can we keep sinning because grace abounds, GOD FORBID! Romans 6:1 & 2

Many churches preach that you can "lose salvation", as if salvation is something that could fall out of your pocket. They preach this because they falsely believe that fear of the loss of salvation is the only way to keep people under control. If you can just "lose salvation", when does that happen? When I ask Christians when they "lose salvation", I ask them "Is it the first sin? the second sin? the 99th sin? God is not a cosmic killjoy who is waitng to pull the rug out from under you at any minute. This bad doctrine is the same as Islam. Not a single Muslim can tell you if they are going to heaven. "If their bad outweighs their good" they will tell you. We as believers are supposed to have a Blessed Assurance. How does a believer have a Blessed Assurance? We have this by putting ALL of our faith in JESUS, who did everything. A believer cannot "lose salvation." Hebrews 6 however, makes it ABUNDANTLY clear that a person CAN DELIBERATELY WALK AWAY.

Verse 4 clearly delineates 5 specific choices a person makes:

"For it is impossible torestore to repentance

1 - those who were once enlightened

2 - those who have experienced the good things of heaven

3 - and shared in the Holy Spirit

4 - who have tasted the goodness of the Word of God

5 - and the power of the age to come

and then turn away from God." It is impossible to bring these people to repentance again becasue they are nailing the Son of God to the cross again by rejecting Hiim holding Him up to public shame." Hebrews 6: 4- 6

This gave me the Blessed Assurance. I don't abuse the grace of God.

I also know that the only reason I will go to heaven is because of what Jesus did.

My love for what Jesus did for me is what compels me to love, to give, to serve - not to earn entrance into heaven.

I hope this is helpful for those still thinking they can "lose salvation". You can't "lose salvation" in that sense. You can sear your conscience and walk away - big difference. This is also why you don't play the "greasy grace" game. A little while of playing that game, you sear your conscience and you are on the way to rejecting Christ.

I hope this is helpful.
